Old Fort Western National Historic Site, Augusta

Old Fort Western, on the east bank of the Kennebec River in downtown Augusta, served as a military outpost from 1754 to 1766, was Augusta’s first store, 1766 to 1812, and housed William and Samuel Howard, Augusta’s leading merchants, farmers, shipbuilders, mariners, and millers, and their families, 1770 to 1810. Owned by the city of Augusta since 1922, the Fort offers a large range of hands-on workshops for school age children and adults. Open year round. Monday-Friday, 9:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. Naples Historical Society The Village Green, Rt. 302 Naples

Musem displays of local heritage and memorabilia, as well as unique items such as, the “cursed Golden Idol”,

  brought from China by a local sea captain in the late 19th century. The Society is home to the “Dillingham Collection”, consisting of a large selection of Native American artifacts which span several millenia.
